The ESC is a recognized technological leader in the planning and design industry. It has been a pioneer in the development of 3D-GIS and sophisticated performance-based systems and regulations, and conceived of and led the development of Community Viz™, the world's first multidimensional place-based decision-support software.
Although the ESC believes that new applications information technology will transform the practice of planning, our solutions to planning and design issues are application-driven rather than technologically-driven. Our solutions are tailored to the uniqueness of the place, circumstances, and clients needs. Technology serves as a means to an end – not an end in itself. The ESC's staff are, first and foremost, planners and architects with considerable experience in Planning, Urban Design, and Zoning. The many technological advances that The Center has made are relevant only because they were developed in the context of real-world planning and design projects and respond to the greater needs of planning and design in the 21st century.
